Marie has spent years navigating both the ups and downs of life with health challenges, and has turned her experiences into a lighthearted, yet insightful exploration of the strange and often ridiculous things people say when they don’t understand chronic illness. With her sharp wit and relatable storytelling, Marie’s writing not only entertains but also offers support to those who may feel isolated by their conditions, while providing families and friends a window into the sometimes confounding world of chronic illness.
A Humorous Look at Chronic Illness and the Ridiculous Things People Say, by Marie Ciampa. Ever had someone say something that made you pause, raise an eyebrow, and think, “Did they really just say that?” Chronic illness is tough enough, but the absurd comments from well-meaning friends, family, and even strangers can be downright hilarious (and sometimes baffling). In The Sh!t people say, Marie takes readers on a rollercoaster ride through the most ridiculous and unintentionally funny remarks made to someone living with chronic illness…
The book is honest and emotional, and you can tell the author poured a lot of
herself into every page. I loved how real it felt. It doesn’t try to dress things up
or smooth over the hard stuff, but there’s still an underlying sense of strength
and hope throughout.
Even if you haven’t been through the same experiences, there’s something
here that sticks. It not only makes you reflect on the things you’ve said in the
past, but also offers some guidance on how to show up better in
conversations with people going through similar struggles.
It’s not just a good read—it’s one of those books that stays with you long after
you’ve finished. Definitely recommend if you're into writing that’s raw,
personal, and real.
Great read. Such a lighthearted, funny and whitty insight into those who live
with health challenges and the thoughtless comments they can sometimes
receive. Really enjoyed it. Great read for anyone living with health challenges
or their friends and family.
The book was bloody fantastic. I have to go back now and highlight some of
my favourite quotes. Seriously she is one inspirational lady. Its also funny
how you can adapt it to many parts of life. I too am a sufferer of anxiety.
Where I have severe panic attacks. It was like she was in my head at some
points.
